Ford Mustang GTD: A Track-Focused Beast Makes Its UK Debut

The Ford Mustang GTD showcased its remarkable capabilities during its UK dynamic debut at the 2024 Festival of Speed, demonstrating why it's Ford's most extreme road car to date. With 815 horsepower flowing from its 5.2-liter supercharged V8, this road-legal masterpiece pushes the boundaries of what's possible in a street-legal Mustang.

Technical Specifications

Feature Specification
Engine 5.2L Supercharged V8
Power Output 800PS (588kW)
Target Competition Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Power Advantage +300PS over GT3 RS

Track Performance Highlights

The Mustang GTD's Hill run demonstrated several notable characteristics:

  • Aggressive handling dynamics
  • Precise edge control near barriers
  • Impressive traction management
  • Distinctive engine note

Design Elements

The GTD's appearance combines racing heritage with modern aerodynamics:

  • Rich blue livery that stands out on the track
  • GT3-inspired body styling
  • Prominent rear wing for enhanced downforce
  • Race-derived aesthetic that mimics GT3 competitors

What appears from a distance to be a fully paid-up GT3 racer is, in fact, the most potent, most extreme Ford road car yet seen.

Performance Capabilities

The GTD's Hill climb performance revealed its track-focused nature through:

  1. Aggressive launches showcasing power delivery
  2. Precise cornering behavior
  3. Confident handling near track limits
  4. Dynamic dust-kicking exits from corners

The Mustang GTD takes inspiration from the new GT3 racing car and pushed its limits on its way, skimming past the haybales and edging close to the grass, kicking up dust in its wake.

Market Position

The Mustang GTD positions itself as a premium track-focused vehicle:

  • Targets the same market as Porsche 911 GT3 RS
  • Offers significant power advantage over competitors
  • Combines road-legal status with race car dynamics
  • Represents the pinnacle of Mustang performance
